Sacred geometry pattern generator

Circles and straight lines on a lattice. Choose the Flower of Life, Metatron's Cube or a Sri Yantra, how many circles or cells fit across the tile, how rich it is and how thick the line, and export a seamless pattern as SVG, PNG or CSS.

Overlapping gold circles on a hexagonal lattice with white petal-shaped lenses on a navy ground, the Flower of Life

Figures drawn with a compass

The Flower of Life is a set of equal circles, each centered on the point where its neighbors meet, so that six petals bloom around every center. The pattern has been found carved in temples from Egypt to Japan and in the notebooks of Leonardo. Metatron's Cube is a newer name for the same circle lattice with straight lines drawn between the centers. The Sri Yantra is a diagram of Hindu tradition: nine interlocking triangles inside rings of lotus petals and a square gate, used for meditation.

Ornamatic draws these as geometry. It makes no claim about their meaning, and its Sri Yantra is a simplified drawing, not the exact construction that a practitioner would make.

How the generator builds them

The Flower of Life and Metatron's Cube sit on a triangular lattice: circles of radius r with centers r apart, every other row shifted by half a circle. Metatron's Cube adds small circles and lines between centers at distances of r√3 and 2r. The yantra is drawn in each cell of a square grid as four upward and five downward triangles, a ring with sixteen and eight petals and a square frame.

The lattices have a whole number of circles in the tile, so the patterns repeat without a seam. Richness adds the inner dots and rings, or more lines.
