What are classic prints?
Some patterns have lasted in clothing and interiors for generations because they are simple and balanced: stripes, chevrons, diamonds, dots and checks. Each is built from one shape and one rule of repetition.
A chevron is a row of V-shapes, drawn as a zigzag or as a smooth wave. Argyle is a field of diamonds, often with thin crossing lines laid over it. Polka dots are circles on a grid. A windowpane check is made from thin lines that outline large squares.
How the generator builds them
Stripes are a sequence of bands, each with a colour and a width; the sequence repeats, and the stripes can run horizontally, vertically or at 45°. Chevron and waves use the same band sequence, bent into a zigzag or a wave. Diamonds are laid out on a diagonal grid, with an overcheck line and an optional dashed stitch. Dots sit on a grid or are staggered in alternate rows.
Every print repeats exactly, so the tile is seamless.
What you can adjust
- Print — stripes, chevron and waves, diamonds and argyle, polka dots or windowpane.
- Bands — the sequence of stripes as colour×width.
- Angle — horizontal, vertical or diagonal stripes.
- Zigzag or wave — and how high the chevron rises.
- Diamond proportions, overcheck lines and dashes — for argyle.
- Dot size, grid or staggered layout, two-tone dots — for polka dots.
- Colours — any palette.
